According to a report by BNAmericas, Peru’s copper production for the first eight months reached 1.81 million tons, representing a year-on-year increase of 2.6%, a moderate growth rate.
According to official data from Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), the primary reason is the increased ore grade at the Las Bambas copper mine.
After resolving the social conflict, Bambas improved its operations. Together with Southern Copper and Cerro Verde, the company is a leader in Peruvian copper production, with its combined copper concentrate accounting for 46% of Peru’s total copper output.
Peru's copper production has grown thanks to strong international demand, driven by copper's critical role in the global energy transition.
According to the latest official data, in the first seven months of 2025, Peru’s copper exports reached US$14.2 billion, an 8% increase year-on-year, solidifying its position as the country’s leading export product.
In contrast, Peru’s second-largest mineral—gold—saw its output fall by more than 1% year-on-year, reaching approximately 70 tons.
Yanacocha remains the country's largest gold producer, accounting for 15% of the nation's total output, followed by Poderosa, which accounts for 7%.
Despite a decline in output, the country’s gold exports reached $11.5 billion, up 11% year-on-year, driven by rising prices.
