Chile's state-owned Codelco and SQM are close to reaching a final agreement on the joint development of lithium mines.

      Chile's state-owned copper company, Codelco, and SQM, the world’s second-largest lithium producer, are set to finalize a landmark cooperation agreement under which the two companies will jointly extract lithium from the Atacama Salt Flat. Supporters believe that this joint venture will help diversify Codelco’s revenue streams. Currently, the company is facing financial pressures due to declining copper production and soaring debt resulting from cost overruns in its expansion projects.
