From the perspective of jade itself, any jade that’s “living jade”—meaning it’s naturally vibrant and full of life—must be Class A. Jade possesses a “color root”; as soon as a person puts it on, this color root quickly begins to dissolve and spread. Take, for example, a pair of aged-pit jade bracelets adorned with floating orchid patterns. When first worn, the orchids appear only as tiny specks, barely visible—like pinpricks. Yet after just half a month of wear, those tiny pinprick-sized orchids have blossomed into clusters of orchids each about the size of a sesame seed. As time goes on, the bracelet becomes increasingly translucent and more beautiful still; the orchid blossoms grow to the size of mung beans and become remarkably uniform in appearance. This is precisely what we call “the human enhancing the jade”—a phenomenon that makes the jade more radiant, more exquisite, and imbued with a superior luster, while its color root seems to subtly shift and flow. Humans are living beings, whereas living jade is a mineral stone. When a person wears such jade, the bio-magnetic field of the human body combines with the mineral’s magnetic field, mutually reinforcing the clockwise rotating magnetic field and making the living jade even more captivating and breathtakingly beautiful.

The concept of “human-nurtured jade” refers to the fact that as time passes, the jade’s interaction with the human body—specifically, the warmth of the human body—gradually influences the jade, prompting it to undergo subtle changes and become imbued with greater spiritual vitality. This phenomenon occurs because, under the influence of body heat, the jade’s chemical composition slowly evolves over time. In fact, jade itself forms over vast stretches of geological time; once unearthed and exposed to the natural environment, its constant exposure to the human body’s temperature of around 37 degrees Celsius continues to shape and enhance its value. The simplest way to distinguish between living and dead jade is this: Take a strand of hair, wrap it around the jade, and then hold it over a flame. If the hair doesn’t break, the jade is considered “living”; if it does break, the jade is “dead.”
