According to the official website of Uzbekistan’s Almalyk Mining Company (JSC "Almalyksky GMK"), the comprehensive utilization of tailings is currently a topic of global concern. After several years of research, Almalyk Mining Company has finally succeeded in recycling the tailings from the Ingichka tungsten deposit (the "Ingichka" deposit).
The Ingichka tungsten mine is located in the Samarkand Region of Uzbekistan. After mining operations at the site are completed, the mine will be transferred to Almalyk Mining Company, which will conduct research into the comprehensive utilization of residual materials and tailings. Following extensive experimental work, Almalyk Mining Company has recently succeeded for the first time in extracting tungsten concentrate from the tailings. The company will continue its research to develop high-value-added tungsten products for export.
By developing the tailings and waste residues from the Ingichika tungsten mine, it is expected to produce 100 tons of tungsten annually and create 150 local jobs.
Tungsten is a rare metal characterized by high hardness, a high melting point, excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, and a relatively low coefficient of thermal expansion. As a result, it is widely used in fields such as alloys, electronics, and chemical engineering; among these, cemented carbides represent the largest consumer sector for tungsten. Currently, the price of tungsten is approaching 40 U.S. dollars per kilogram.
