In 2022, the nonferrous metals market experienced volatile fluctuations. Most nonferrous metal prices initially rose and then fell, generally showing a trend of surging to a peak and then retreating. Among the six major nonferrous metals, copper, aluminum, zinc, and tin saw price declines for the entire year, while nickel and lead prices increased. In particular, small-metal prices exhibited the most dramatic fluctuations. Shanghai nickel posted the highest annual increase, while Shanghai tin ranked at the top of the list for price declines. Notably, Shanghai tin reached an all-time high of 395,000 yuan per ton, and Shanghai nickel hit an all-time high of 281,250 yuan per ton. In 2022, Shanghai tin futures prices showed a pattern of surging to a peak and then falling back, with a significant downward shift in the overall price center, resulting in substantial volatility. Shanghai nickel rose by more than 52% for the year, with its price soaring by about 85% at one point during the middle of the year; on March 25, it reached a peak of 281,250 yuan per ton.
