Recently, the Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Natural Resources revealed that in recent years, Heilongjiang has been vigorously promoting a new round of strategic initiatives aimed at breakthroughs in mineral exploration. In line with policies issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Finance, and other relevant departments to advance reforms in mineral resource management, Heilongjiang has continued to deepen these reforms. In Tuwang County, Yichun City, bold explorations have been undertaken, resulting in the implementation of Heilongjiang Province’s first public-interest geological exploration project funded by county-level finances—the Tuwang County Shuguang Vanadium-Iron Ore Public-Interest Exploration Project. This project has discovered iron ore reserves totaling 381 million tons and has accumulated valuable experience in the commercialization of exploration results.
The project, led by the Natural Resources Bureau of Tangwang County and filed with the Heilongjiang Provincial Department, is based on the 1:50,000 geological and mineral survey results conducted by the Institute of Geological Survey at Jilin University from 2007 to 2008 and the findings of the “Verification of Aeromagnetic Anomalies in the Xiaoxing’anling Region” carried out by the Heilongjiang Provincial Institute of Geological Survey and Research from 2011 to 2013. Implemented by the Eleventh Geological Exploration Institute of Heilongjiang Province, the geological exploration work was launched in August 2021. In April 2023, following an evaluation by a panel of experts from the Heilongjiang Mining Association, the project’s exploration revealed reserves totaling 381 million tons of iron ore with an average magnetic iron grade of 7.84% and associated vanadium pentoxide of 6.0281 million tons at an average grade of 0.158%. These results meet the standards for large-scale magmatic-type magnetite deposits, thereby providing the necessary conditions for the in-depth implementation of the “Heilongjiang Province High-Quality Development Plan for the Iron and Steel Industry.”
