Aclara Resources Inc. announced the first resource estimate for its Carina ion-adsorption-type rare-earth project in Goiás, Brazil.
Based on the 201 completed spiral drill holes (with a total drilling depth of 1,630 meters) and the analysis results from 1,418 samples, the project’s preliminary estimate of the inferred ore resource amount is 168 million tons, with a total rare earth oxide (TREO) grade of 0.151% and a desorbable rare earth oxide (DREO) grade of 0.0477%.
Based on the threshold value of $7.4 per ton, the project’s average Net Smelter Return (NSR) is $32.3 per ton.
This project contains large quantities of dysprosium, terbium, neodymium, and praseodymium—rare-earth elements that are crucial for the production of permanent magnets used in electric vehicles and wind turbines.
The rare-earth recovery technology tested by Akkala in Chile can be applied to this project, enabling maximum reduction of costs and environmental impacts.
The shallow burial of the ore deposit results in a very low stripping ratio (<0.4), leading to low production costs.
The company plans to complete the preliminary economic evaluation in January 2024.
Currently, the project is undergoing reverse circulation drilling and is expected to be completed in the second quarter of next year.
