On February 23, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region’s natural resources system held a video and teleconference to summarize the key tasks for natural resource work across the region in 2023, analyze the current situation, and outline and deploy the key tasks for 2024.
　　Chen Weijun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Autonomous Region Party Committee and Executive Vice Chairman of the Autonomous Region, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
　　The meeting pointed out that in 2023, the natural resources system across Xinjiang achieved remarkable results. The total area of cultivated land across the region has increased net for two consecutive years; the new round of mineral exploration breakthrough initiatives is being fully rolled out; the surveying and mapping and geographic information sector is accelerating its transformation and upgrading; the territorial spatial planning system is becoming increasingly sophisticated; and the capacity for ecological civilization construction continues to strengthen, laying a solid foundation for consolidating the autonomous region's economic recovery trend.
　　The meeting emphasized that in 2024, the natural resources system across Xinjiang should focus on the nation’s new round of strategic actions for breakthroughs in mineral exploration, enhance awareness, strengthen responsibility, and ensure domestic supply of mineral resources—especially strategic mineral resources—and firmly safeguard the bottom line of resource security.
　　The meeting called for the entire natural resources system across Xinjiang to firmly grasp the primary task of high-quality development, further unlock potential, unleash momentum, and coordinate development with security, as well as openness with stability. It emphasized firmly leveraging the advantageous conditions that support high-quality economic and social development, and staying true to our work orientation of strictly safeguarding the bottom line of resource security, optimizing land spatial patterns, promoting green and low-carbon development, and protecting the rights and interests of resource assets. We must focus on strengthening resource allocation, enhancing policy supply, and improving governance capabilities, thereby serving as a powerful catalyst for the autonomous region’s high-quality development.
