As the Western Development Strategy once again comes into the focus of China's top leadership, the western region is poised to seize new opportunities for high-quality development.
On April 23, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out at the symposium on promoting the large-scale development of the western region in the new era that we should accelerate the construction of a new energy system and bolster a number of key national energy bases. We should strengthen the planning and management of mineral resources and promote their large-scale, intensive development and utilization, thereby speeding up the establishment of a number of nationally recognized mineral resource mining and processing bases.
Faced with such strategic opportunities, the geology and mining industry should seize the momentum and take proactive action—
First, it is essential to grasp the situation accurately. The western region encompasses 12 provinces, most of which are rich in mineral resources and hold a critically important strategic position in the broader context of national security and long-term development. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, General Secretary Xi Jinping has visited all 12 western provinces, providing guidance and setting the course for high-quality development of the western region in the new era.
Second, we must actively integrate and engage. The geology and mining industry should comprehensively and deeply advance the new round of strategic actions for breakthroughs in mineral exploration, boosting reserves of critical energy and mineral resources and providing robust energy and resource support for high-quality development in western regions. In response to the growing demand for new machinery and equipment in mine construction, manufacturers of mining technology and equipment should step up production efforts and proactively explore new markets. Mining enterprises should make full and effective use of existing policies and actively expand their room for growth.
Once again, it’s crucial to strengthen our internal capabilities. Although the western region is rich in mineral resources, its ecological environment is fragile. The geology and mining industry must strike a balance between high-level development and high-quality protection, further enhancing green exploration and green mine construction, accelerating the implementation of digital and intelligent development, and improving the efficiency and comprehensive utilization of mineral resources.
Today, the geology and mining industry is stepping up to its responsibilities of the times, grasping the current situation, defining its position clearly, and proactively planning for the future. In the future, the geology and mining industry will surely reap abundant rewards from high-quality development in the western region.
