Reporters learned at a recent press conference held by the State Council Information Office that China has made positive progress in the intelligent development of its mining industry. As of now, the country has established 1,642 intelligent mining faces, with 859 coal mines equipped with such intelligent working faces. More than 30 types of robots—totaling 2,640 units—and 1,328 unmanned vehicles have been put into practical use, and 17,000 fixed positions have achieved unmanned operation.
At the press conference, a representative from the National Mine Safety Administration stated that in recent years, the Administration has implemented a series of measures and introduced a range of policies, driving significant progress in the intelligent development of mines.
In terms of strengthening top-level design, in April of this year, the National Mine Safety Administration, jointly with the Ministry of Emergency Management, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Education, issued the "Guiding Opinions on Deepening the Promotion of Intelligent Mining Construction and Facilitating the Safe Development of Mines," providing a systematic plan from the perspective of top-level design.
In terms of strengthening technological innovation, we have approved the establishment of five national key laboratories under the State Administration of Work Safety, focusing on intelligent mining. We have also coordinated to include five projects—such as “intelligent tunneling” and “unmanned operations in open-pit mines”—in the National Key R&D Program. Furthermore, we have promoted joint research efforts among industry, academia, and research institutions, leading to breakthroughs in the development of a number of critical technologies and equipment.
In terms of adhering to standards-led approaches, we have released the “Framework for Intelligent Mining Standards,” guiding the development and revision of relevant standards and specifications. We have also released the “Specification for Data Integration and Sharing in Intelligent Mines,” breaking down “data silos.”
In terms of strengthening policy incentives, we will promote support in areas such as increasing coal mine production capacity, standardizing safe production practices, and securing central budget investments. We will also push for the inclusion of intelligent equipment within the scope of support for large-scale equipment upgrades.
In terms of upholding demonstration and leading roles, we have collaborated with the National Energy Administration to promote the construction of smart, demonstration coal mines. Together with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, we have solicited and announced two batches of a total of 92 typical application scenarios for mining robots, resulting in the emergence of a number of exemplary cases.
Next, the National Mine Safety Administration will continue to step up its support in areas such as policy standards, technological innovation, and application demonstrations, thereby driving mine intelligence construction to a new level and laying an important foundation for fundamentally enhancing mine safety.
