According to a report by Mining See magazine on September 1, 2024, Neptune Energy has received from the State Office for Geology and Mining (LAGB) in mid-August an exploration license for lithium deposits in northern Saxony-Anhalt. The licensed area encompasses the “Milde A-L” and “Milde C-L” regions, including parts of the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel, Stendal, and Börde districts in the Altmark region.
Over the next five years, Neptune Energy will have the right to conduct lithium exploration in these areas. The specific exploration activities will include data evaluation and subsurface modeling, and may also involve drilling an exploratory well. Currently, this exploration plan is awaiting further approval. More information is available on the LAGB official website.
In addition, Neptune Energy holds a mining license for the Altmark district in Salzwedel. Lithium and geothermal extraction activities are currently underway at this site, and lithium-bearing deposits have been confirmed. It is expected that brine lithium extraction will begin in the fourth quarter of 2024 as part of a pilot project, pending official approval.
