On March 11, a meeting of liaison officers from the governing units of the Li Siguang Geological Science Award Foundation was held in Beijing to lay out the arrangements for the 19th Li Siguang Geological Science Award selection process, marking the official launch of the award’s application process.

The meeting revealed that this year’s Li Siguang Geological Science Award will undergo significant adjustments in terms of award categories and other aspects. On the same day, the Li Siguang Geological Science Award Foundation issued the “Notice on the Application Process for the 19th Li Siguang Geological Science Award,” clearly outlining specific details such as the application procedures and deadlines. According to the newly revised “Regulations of the Li Siguang Geological Science Award,” the award is open to geological professionals nationwide and comprises two categories: the Field Work Award and the Scientific Research Award. The application process for this year’s Li Siguang Geological Science Award consists of three steps: individual application, nomination by the applicant’s institution, and review by the competent authority before submission. Starting this year, the application process will be conducted via an online system; applicants must complete the application materials according to the requirements specified in the notice at the website (https://www.lsgf.ac.cn). The deadline for this year’s applications is June 20, 2025. After the application period concludes, the Li Siguang Geological Science Award Committee will select the winners of the 19th Li Siguang Geological Science Award by September 30, 2025. Following a public announcement with no objections, the award ceremony will be held before the end of the year. It is reported that the Li Siguang Geological Science Award is the highest-level geological science award for geological and scientific professionals across the country. It primarily honors geologists who have devoted themselves long-term to geological work, demonstrated deep love for their country and the geological profession, and made outstanding contributions to the development of geological science and the modernization of the nation. Since its inception in 1989, the award has recognized a total of 283 recipients, among whom 46 have gone on to be elected as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences or the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
