According to a compilation of reports from the website of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) and other foreign media, Zetti Gavelán, IIMP Vice President, stated during a speech at the College of Engineers held recently as part of “Mining Engineering Week 2025” that Peru’s mineral production has declined significantly over the past 25 years, particularly in tin and gold. She noted that tin production has been on the decline for decades, yet in 2024 it experienced an unexpected recovery, growing by nearly 33.3% and reaching levels similar to those at the beginning of the year 2000.

Gavirán stated that although Peru’s copper production last year was close to the 2023 level, with refined copper output reaching approximately 2.755 million tons—lower than the initially projected 3 million tons—gold, silver, and lead production all saw increases. As of the latest data available as of October 2024, the country’s gold production rose by 8%, marking the first rebound in nearly 20 years, while silver and lead production increased by nearly 15% and 7.8%, respectively. In addition, iron production also reached a record high, growing by 2.1%.
