According to a report by Reuters cited on the website Mining.com, Russian diamond producer Alrosa announced on Tuesday that its production for 2025 is expected to be 29.7 million carats, in line with previous expectations, but down 10% from last year.
In a statement, the company's chief executive, Pavel Marinychev, said that the company had remained profitable despite Western sanctions and a downturn in the global diamond market. He did not disclose the profit amount.
Alrosa, the world's largest diamond producer, accounting for about one-third of global output, announced in March that it would temporarily shut down low-profit mines with production below 1 million carats, while maintaining its production forecast of 29 million carats for 2025.
Alrosa stated that it will continue to develop its gold mining projects and aims to achieve an annual design capacity of 3.3 tons by 2030 at Degdekan in the Magadan region of Russia's Far East. (Ministry of Natural Resources)
