According to the latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to February, China’s industrial enterprises above a designated size achieved main business revenue of 15,194.13 billion yuan, an increase of 2.9% year-on-year; their total profits amounted to 745.24 billion yuan, down 4.2% year-on-year. Among these, the mining industry recorded main business revenue of 785.89 billion yuan, a decrease of 12.8% year-on-year; its total profits reached 38.86 billion yuan, down 62.6% year-on-year. The profit margin on main business revenue for the mining industry was 4.94%, roughly in line with the profit margin on main business revenue for industrial enterprises above a designated size (4.9%).
By analyzing the data, reporters found that among all industrial enterprises above a designated size, the resource and raw materials sector experienced the largest decline in profits, with the coal, oil, gas extraction and processing industries being particularly affected.
Looking at the sub-sectors of the mining industry, from January to February, due to the continued decline in coal prices, the coal mining and washing industry achieved main business revenues of 396.66 billion yuan, down 8.3%; its total profits amounted to 8.27 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 62.6%, or a reduction of 13.85 billion yuan, accounting for over 40% of the total decline in profits across all large-scale industrial enterprises. Affected by the sharp drop in oil prices, the oil and natural gas extraction industry recorded main business revenues of 124.18 billion yuan, down 34%; its total profits reached 15.18 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 74.9%, representing a reduction of 45.33 billion yuan. The ferrous metal mining and dressing industry generated main business revenues of 95.85 billion yuan, down 17.5%; its total profits were 5.35 billion yuan, down 43.5%. The non-ferrous metal mining and dressing industry posted main business revenues of 80.5 billion yuan, up 2.2%; its total profits stood at 6.34 billion yuan, down 16.2%. The non-metallic mineral mining and dressing industry achieved main business revenues of 70.03 billion yuan, up 7.8%; its total profits totaled 5.05 billion yuan, up 7.2%.
Looking at downstream industries in the mining sector, due to factors such as the increase in the consumption tax on refined oil products and a decline in prices, the petroleum processing, coking, and nuclear fuel processing industries saw their main business revenue fall by 22.2% to 487.67 billion yuan, while total profits plunged by 345.2% to -20.28 billion yuan—a reduction in profits equivalent to 28.55 billion yuan. Non-metallic mineral products enterprises recorded main business revenue of 741.78 billion yuan, up 9.5%; total profits reached 40.96 billion yuan, an increase of 3.1%. The ferrous metal smelting and rolling industry reported main business revenue of 978.21 billion yuan, down 10.4%; total profits amounted to 9.23 billion yuan, a decrease of 10.8%. The non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling industry achieved main business revenue of 664.7 billion yuan, up 1.2%; total profits stood at 14.26 billion yuan, an increase of 12.5%. Metal products enterprises posted main business revenue of 483.51 billion yuan, up 10.8%; total profits reached 24.63 billion yuan, an increase of 19.2%.
