On March 29-30, 2018, Peng Qiming, President of the China Mining Association, was invited to attend the sixth executive council meeting of the fourth session of the Zhejiang Provincial Mining Association. On the afternoon of the 29th, accompanied by leaders of the Zhejiang Provincial Mining Association, President Peng Qiming visited and inspected the Hydrogeological and Engineering Geological Brigade of Zhejiang Province, the comprehensive remediation project for the abandoned Beilun mine, the planning and design exhibition hall of the Meishan Port Bonded Zone, the imported car showroom, and the China Port Museum. In the morning of the 30th, the sixth executive council meeting of the fourth session of the Zhejiang Provincial Mining Association was officially held. The theme of this meeting centered on earnestly studying and implementing the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and jointly exploring the path of transformation and green development for Zhejiang’s mining industry. The meeting was chaired by Pan Shengming, President of the Zhejiang Provincial Mining Association, and President Peng Qiming attended the meeting and delivered a keynote speech.

　　In his speech, he discussed the historical contributions and enduring value of the mining industry, comprehensively analyzed the opportunities and challenges facing the mining sector in the new era, and emphasized using innovation-driven approaches and green development to reshape the image of the mining industry. He also highlighted the need for the China Mining Association to actively play its role as an industry organization and contribute to the sustained, healthy, and robust development of the mining sector.

　　He pointed out that the environmental remediation model for abandoned mines, which combines natural mountain environment restoration with efficient utilization of land resources in Ningbo City, offers new ideas and approaches for green mine development. The remediation efforts at the Meishan Abandoned Mine have achieved remarkable results, and the Meishan International Raceway can serve as a prime example, providing valuable lessons for future green mine development planning.

　　He emphasized that the development and utilization of natural resources should be planned and managed in a coordinated manner, taking into account political, economic, and ecological factors in a holistic way. At the top-level design stage, we must ensure that natural resources are preserved and enhanced in value, maximizing resource efficiency. China’s experience in green development of the mining industry should be shared with the world—through mainstream media—to help all sectors of society shift their perceptions of the mining industry and reshape its public image.
