Why is potassium humate fertilizer becoming increasingly popular?

“Driven by the Ministry of Agriculture’s ‘Action Plan for Achieving Zero Growth in Fertilizer Use by 2020,’ we should vigorously promote the development of green fertilizers and value-added fertilizers, in which potassium humate will play a crucial role,” said Zhao Bingqiang, a researcher at the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, at the recently held inaugural China Potassium Humate Compound Fertilizer Summit Forum and Radomai Million-Ton New Fertilizer Strategy Launch Event in Beijing.
According to Zeng Xiancheng, Chairman of the China Humic Acid Industry Association, statistics based on the Ministry of Agriculture’s fertilizer registration announcements show that there are currently 4,636 registered fertilizer products containing potassium in China, among which 1,527 are humic acid fertilizers containing potassium—accounting for roughly one-third of the total. “For more than three decades, extensive experimental studies have demonstrated that potassium humate can increase the readily available potassium content in soil, enhance the absorption and utilization efficiency of potash fertilizers, boost crop yields, improve crop quality, and strengthen crops’ resistance to stress—all achieving remarkable results in agricultural applications,” said Zeng Xiancheng.
Industry insiders attending the meeting believe that potassium humate, with its soil-repairing and -improving properties, can effectively prevent soil acidification, compaction, and pollution caused by the long-term use of conventional fertilizers (such as potassium sulfate, urea, diammonium phosphate, etc.), thereby promoting the sustainable development and utilization of farmland. Currently, as the "Zero Growth in Chemical Fertilizer Use" initiative gains strong momentum and consumers increasingly demand high-quality food products, potassium humate and companies producing potassium humate-based fertilizers are set to become ever more popular.
According to Yang Jinchang, President of Radomi, Radomi has established a dedicated research center for high-tower humic acid potassium compound fertilizers specifically for the development of potassium humate products. Moreover, potassium humate is an ideal raw material for producing both compound fertilizers and water-soluble fertilizers. They are leveraging this new type of potassium humate fertilizer as a breakthrough point to strive toward becoming the leading brand of potassium humate compound fertilizers in China.
Professor Xinping Chen from the College of Resources and Environment at China Agricultural University is conducting a special research project titled “Research on Efficient Utilization of Potassium Fertilizers and Potassium Substitution Technologies.” He believes that compound fertilizers in China are currently shifting from general-purpose formulations toward specialized ones. As global demand for potash fertilizers continues to rise, the humic acid potassium fertilizer industry is experiencing rapid growth, with an increasingly diverse range of products. Single-element fertilizers, compound fertilizers, and water-soluble fertilizers containing humic acid potassium are becoming ever more popular among consumers.
