Recently, Academician Mao Jingwen from the Institute of Resources at the China Geological Survey led a team to Guangdong and Fujian provinces to conduct an in-depth investigation of porphyry copper-gold (molybdenum) deposits in volcanic rock-covered areas. Subsequently, a geological survey seminar on copper-gold mineral resources in the Zhejiang-Fujian-Guangdong volcanic rock region was held in Beijing.

　　During the field expedition, team members conducted detailed observations of copper deposits of the Qigu Ling skarn type in Yangchun, western Guangdong, as well as the Naran gold deposit and the Qigen molybdenum deposit. They gained a preliminary understanding of the basic characteristics of major mineral resources in the southeastern coastal region and identified a selection of work areas with promising prospects for future exploration. Meanwhile, the team engaged in multiple rounds of exchanges and communications with the Guangdong Nonferrous Metals Geological Bureau, the Guangdong Geological Bureau, the Fujian Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Exploration and Development, and its affiliated geological teams, conducting in-depth discussions on the next steps and plans for their work.

　　At the seminar, the project team from the Institute of Resources exchanged views with relevant frontline geological units on the work foundation, existing issues, work content, and work plans for the “Geological Survey of Copper and Gold Deposits in the Volcanic Rock Areas of Zhejiang, Fujian, and Guangdong.” They also discussed and finalized specific cooperation arrangements. The following organizations participated in the meeting: the Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Geological Exploration, the Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Nonferrous Metal Geological Exploration, the No. 7 Geological Brigade of Zhejiang Province, the No. 11 Geological Brigade of Zhejiang Province, the Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Geology, the Guangdong Provincial Institute of Nonferrous Metal Geological Exploration, Team 931 of the Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Nonferrous Metal Geology, the Fujian Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, the Fujian Provincial Research Institute of Geological Survey, and the Mineral Geology Division of the Fujian Provincial Institute of Geological Survey.

　　It is reported that the team has long been focused on the metallogenic patterns and mineral exploration efforts in eastern China. In recent years, they have developed a large-scale metallogenic dynamic model for the Yanshan Period within the intra-plate region of eastern China, predicting significant exploration potential for copper and gold deposits in the volcanic rock zones along the southeastern coast. The “Geological Survey of Copper and Gold Deposits in the Zhejiang-Fujian-Guangdong Volcanic Rock Region” project (2019–2021) was launched precisely in this context. This field expedition and workshop have laid a solid foundation for the high-quality completion of the geological survey project.
