Since 2013, the domestic jadeite market has entered a prolonged period of adjustment. After five years of adjustment and consolidation, what will the future market look like?
Recently, at the National Forum on Demonstration Zones for Well-Known Brands in the Jadeite Cultural Industry—held in Ruili, China’s “Jadeite Capital” and a border town between China and Myanmar—positive news emerged from the industry: a brand-new era of the industry is about to dawn.
“After five years of market reshuffling, the bubble in the domestic jadeite market has largely been deflated, and the price floor for mid-to-high-end jadeite has now been established. Every piece of mid-to-high-end jadeite you hold is uniquely rare and highly exclusive.”
At the “National Forum on Well-Known Brand Demonstration Zones for the Jadeite Cultural Industry and the 10th China Jadeite Quality Inspection Annual Conference,” held in Ruili, a city known as the “Jadeite Capital of China” and located on the China-Myanmar border, Li Lianju, Deputy Director of the Yunnan Provincial Department of Natural Resources and Director of the Office of the Joint Conference on the Development of the Stone Industry in Yunnan Province, stated the following:
At the meeting, Li Lianju analyzed the changes in the jadeite market over the past five years. He discussed the necessity of valuing the scarcity of jadeite and jade from the perspectives of its origin, formation, and quality. He also sent a positive signal to the industry, urging them to “approach the new era of the jadeite industry with confidence.”
In fact, after five years of accumulation, the domestic jadeite industry has seen a new momentum emerge across various sectors—including jade carving, inlay design, brand building, marketing, and trade shows. It has become a consensus both within and outside the industry that the jadeite market is experiencing a rational rise and positive development.
Earlier this year, at the 2018 “First China Jadeite Annual Conference” held in China’s “Hometown of Jade,” Shi Hongyue, Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Jewelry & Jade Ornament Industry Association, conveyed a positive signal, stating that the overall trend for the jadeite market in the future is one of steady improvement.
Shi Hongyue believes that in the new era, the jadeite industry will usher in entirely new development opportunities—both in terms of consumer demand and supply capacity. At the same time, supported by the enduring tradition of jade culture, the future of the jadeite industry will be even brighter. Guided by our original aspirations and mission, embracing new development concepts and new consumption paradigms, jadeite will serve as the finest vehicle for cultural heritage, cultural inheritance, and China’s distinctive cultural identity.
Meanwhile, actively promoting industrial upgrading and seizing the opportunities presented by the times have become the shared aspiration of insightful figures in the jadeite industry. Yang Muren, Vice President of the Yunnan Province Jewelry and Jade Culture Promotion Association and founder of Jadeite Dynasty, once stated that as long as the jadeite industry can seize these opportunities, embrace reform and innovation, and upgrade its offerings in terms of products, services, and marketing to provide consumers with better service, the industry will gradually adjust and unlock even more new opportunities.
