Kunming, Feb. 4, People's Daily Online — Recently, a jade-carving artisan from Dehong, Yunnan, unveiled an emerald undergarment that took three years to carve. The garment is adorned with 223 precious stones, including pearls, rubies, and tourmalines, making it extraordinarily luxurious. Upon its release, the piece has drawn intense attention from industry insiders.
According to the creator, Guan Qingsong, he named this jade piece “Motherly Grace Over All Lands” as a tribute to his mother. The piece will soon be put on public display. Crafted from premium tri-color jade in a single, seamless sculpture, it took three years to complete and is a unique, wearable jade artwork. “It employs an original flat-looping technique that ensures the jade undergarment fits snugly against the body—wearing it feels just like wearing real underwear.” The work showcases an innovative take on the traditional Chinese carving technique known as “living loops,” earning high praise from industry experts.
