The “2021 National Statistical Bulletin on R&D Expenditure,” jointly released recently by the National Bureau of Statistics, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Finance (hereinafter referred to as the “Bulletin”), shows that in 2021, R&D expenditure in the mining industry totaled 37.05 billion yuan, with an R&D intensity of 0.63%. Among these, R&D expenditure for the ferrous metal mining and beneficiation industry reached 3.41 billion yuan, an increase of 86.3% over the 1.83 billion yuan spent in 2020. The R&D intensity for this sector was 0.57%, up 0.19 percentage points from 2020.
In 2021, the expenditures and intensity of R&D investment in other mining industries were as follows: for coal mining and washing, R&D expenditure totaled 14.33 billion yuan, with an intensity of 0.43%; for oil and gas extraction, R&D expenditure was 9.29 billion yuan, with an intensity of 1.02%; for non-ferrous metal mining and beneficiation, R&D expenditure was 2.96 billion yuan, with an intensity of 0.94%; and for non-metallic mineral mining and beneficiation, R&D expenditure was 2.98 billion yuan, with an intensity of 0.69%.
