According to a report by Ghana’s “Financial Times” on June 12, the latest data provided by the Ghana Chamber of Mines (GCM) show that Ghana’s gold production in 2022 rose from 2.8 million ounces in 2021 to 3.7 million ounces. Among them, large-scale gold mining reached 3.1 million ounces in 2022, an increase of 13% over the previous year, marking the highest-ever production level. In 2022, Ghana’s diamond production increased from 54,174 carats in the previous year to 82,252 carats, with exports rising by 52%. Meanwhile, Ghana’s manganese ore production in 2022 declined from 3.3 million tons in the previous year to 3.2 million tons, and bauxite production fell from 839,000 tons to 773,000 tons. According to information provided by the Ghana Revenue Authority, the mining sector became the primary source of direct taxes in 2022, generating 6.38 billion cedis—a share of 18.6% of the total. This included 3.58 billion cedis in corporate income tax, 1.796 billion cedis in resource tax, and 1.002 billion cedis in employee income tax.
