According to a report titled “Global Outlook for Offshore Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Development,” published by Global Data, a globally renowned data analytics and consulting firm, cited by Revista Petroquímica, Brazil is poised to surpass the United States as the world’s largest oil producer by 2025, thanks to its abundant deepwater reserves and ongoing improvements in infrastructure.
The report highlights the country’s influence on the global energy market through more than 20 crude oil projects implemented in Brazil in recent years. Among these, the Bacalhau project, the Buzios V phase, and the Lula Oeste project are the most prominent projects operated by Brazil’s national oil company, Petrobras. Thanks to these projects, as of May 2024, Brazil’s total oil and gas production reached 4.234 million barrels per day.
According to the Brazilian News Agency, in May of this year, Brazil's natural gas production increased by 3.9% month-on-month and by 3.6% year-on-year. Oil and gas production from offshore fields operated solely by Petrobras or jointly with other companies accounted for as much as 88.88%.
