Recently, the China Geological Survey reported that two new minerals—“fluorocarbon-calcium-neodymium mineral” and “Juxing copper mineral”—discovered, named, and proposed by Chinese researchers have recently been approved by the Commission on New Mineral Names and Classification of the International Mineralogical Association.
Fluorocarbon-calcium-neodymium mineral was discovered at the Baiyun Obo mine in Inner Mongolia by Researcher Fan Chenzhi from the National Geological Testing and Analysis Center, in collaboration with researchers from the Institute of Mineral Resources of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, Central South University, and other institutions. The discovery of this fluorocarbon-calcium-neodymium mineral is of great significance for understanding the occurrence states and substitution mechanisms of rare-earth elements in Baiyun Obo, as well as for gaining insights into the formation and evolution of the ore deposit, the occurrence states of elements, element migration, and enrichment mechanisms.
The Juxing copper deposit was discovered in the Jiama world-class porphyry-skarn-type giant copper-polymetallic deposit in Tibet by Assistant Researcher Gu Fenghua from the Institute of Mineral Resources, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, and Associate Professor Zhang Yongmei from China University of Geosciences (Beijing), among others. The discovery of the Juxing copper deposit is of great significance for studying the physicochemical conditions and ore-forming processes associated with porphyry-skarn-type deposits.
