According to a report by the Latin American News Agency on November 10, Bolivian President Luis Arce delivered a speech on November 10 at the 214th anniversary celebration of Potosí’s liberation, confirming that Bolivia will sign a second contract with China for lithium industrialization.
Speaking at the event on the 10th, he said, “We plan to sign a second contract with a Chinese company next week, making this our second contract to be submitted to the Multiethnic Legislative Assembly.”
The first contract submitted to the Plurinational Legislative Assembly was signed in September of this year between Bolivia’s National Lithium Corporation and Russia’s Uranium One Group. Under the agreement, the two parties will use direct extraction technology at the Uyuni Salt Flats in Potosí to produce 14,000 tons of lithium carbonate annually.
According to the report, in 2022, the government, through Bolivia's National Lithium Corporation, began signing agreements with foreign companies to establish a pilot plant on the country's salt flats that will employ direct extraction technology.
The company has signed agreements with the Chinese enterprise CITIC Guoan, the Russian Uranium One Group, and the China United Consortium to build lithium carbonate production plants on the Uyuni and Salar de Pastos Grandes salt flats.
