Malawi suspends all exports of mineral products.

According to a report by Bloomberg cited by Mining.com, the Malawian government has ordered a suspension of all mineral exports to allow the Ministry of Mines to streamline procedures.
In a notice published in the Daily Times, Malawi’s Ministry of Mining stated that the ministry aims to refine the regulatory framework “to promote both industry growth and national economic expansion.”
Malawi is one of the world’s poorest countries, and its economy relies primarily on agriculture, with tobacco being its main source of foreign exchange.
Sovereign Metals, a company backed by Rio Tinto, is developing the Kasiya rutile-graphite project in the western part of the country. Once the mine is completed, it will produce rutile as its primary product, with graphite as a byproduct.
