On February 20, the China National Petroleum Corporation announced that China’s first ultra-deep exploration well—Well Tako-1, with a depth exceeding 10,000 meters—recently completed drilling successfully at a depth of 10,910 meters underground, making it the deepest vertical-depth well in Asia and the second deepest in the world. This marks a major breakthrough for China in the “deep-earth” exploration field.
Well Tako 1, located deep underground, began drilling on May 30, 2023, and successfully obtained China’s first core sample from beneath the Earth’s surface at a depth of over 10,000 meters. It also marked the world’s first-ever discovery of oil and gas indications in the ultra-deep terrestrial strata exceeding 10,000 meters.
