The 2025 Guangdong Provincial Geological Work Conference was recently held in Guangzhou. Focusing on the provincial party committee’s “1310” specific deployment and the provincial government’s work arrangements, the conference summarized the achievements of geological work across the province in 2024, outlined key tasks for 2025, and mobilized the entire provincial geological system to make greater contributions to the overall economic and social development of the province.

　The meeting pointed out that 2024 is a pivotal year for Guangdong’s geological sector as it deepens reform and makes breakthroughs in key areas. The province’s geological system is comprehensively promoting the deepening reform of geological exploration units, ensuring energy and resource security, preventing and controlling geological disasters, and advancing ecological construction under the “Green and Beautiful Guangdong” initiative. By successfully completing the tasks related to reform, development, safety, and stability, the geological sector has provided solid geological support for the province’s high-quality economic and social development.

The meeting called for the provincial geological system in 2025 to firmly grasp the political nature and strategic mission of geological work, promote the implementation of various tasks with a pragmatic work style, and focus on eight key areas of work: First, comprehensively complete the “last-mile” tasks of the reform of geological exploration units. Solidly advance the adjustments to grassroots Party organization structures, personnel transfers, internal institutional setup, and asset inventory and acceptance procedures; prepare for the establishment of a geology and mining group and ensure the smooth operation of the new working system. Second, strengthen the exploration of strategic mineral resources. Focus on breakthroughs in key minerals such as rare earths and tin, as well as minerals where Guangdong Province has competitive advantages, and actively promote the renaming and expansion of the “Provincial Uranium Resource Exploration Special Program.” Third, build a geological disaster prevention and control system. Accelerate the construction of technical support bases for geological disaster prevention and control, enhance monitoring and early warning capabilities, emergency response and rescue capacities, and strengthen the ability to “prevent major floods, withstand major storms, and rescue from major disasters.” Fourth, deepen services for Guangdong’s ecological construction aimed at green and beautiful landscapes. Deeply participate in the integrated protection and restoration of mountains, rivers, forests, farmland, lakes, grasslands, and sand; develop the Nanyue Ancient Post Road geological and cultural education trail; and advance surveys and assessments of natural radioactive environments. Fifth, promote the transformation of geological resources into advantageous industries. Continue to implement projects related to the Siwangzhang National Defense Education Base; promote the survey and development of geological resources such as hot springs, mineral water, and geological relics; support the construction of the high-quality development leading zone around Nankunshan and Luofu Mountain towns and villages; and steadily advance marine geological surveys and marine disaster monitoring and early warning efforts. Sixth, accelerate breakthroughs in geological science and technology innovation. Establish the Guangdong Geological Data Center, gradually improve the “Guangdong Geological Cloud” platform, and promote the construction and application of intelligent geological survey systems. Seventh, strengthen the creation of safe and secure geological workplaces. Advance the three-year action plan for addressing the root causes of production safety, and launch the special campaign “2025 Year of Hazard Identification and Remediation.” Identify and strictly control risk categories related to projects, contracts, taxes, and other areas, effectively preventing operational risks. Eighth, pay careful and heartfelt attention to work related to retired personnel. Launch the “Silver Hair Beauty—Geological Affection” brand initiative and carry out activities to establish “six-good” Party branches for retirees.
