Recently, the nation’s first concept and theoretical framework for geological ecological products were unveiled in Anji, Huzhou, Zhejiang Province.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the “Two Mountains” concept. As the birthplace of this concept, Anji has been continuously exploring ways to realize the value of ecological products in recent years. Over the past two years, a research team composed of the Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Geology, Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics, and Zhejiang University of Science and Technology has conducted in-depth research on geological ecological products, laying a solid foundation for the protection and sustainable utilization of local geological ecological resources.

It is reported that, building on the provincial-level special fund project for basic, public-interest, and strategic geological work—“Pilot Survey and Evaluation of Geological-Ecological Products in Key Areas of Zhejiang Province (Anji County)” —the research team has developed a cascading model for realizing the value of geological-ecological products, comprising the following components: “geological-ecosystem, geological-ecosystem services, geological-ecological products, and value realization.” The team has also proposed a conceptual definition of geological-ecological products: “Goods and services within an ecosystem that take geological environmental resources as their core input factors, are produced through ecological processes or co-produced with human society, and are provided to and utilized by economic activities and other human endeavors.”

　“Realizing the value of ecological products is an important step in putting the ‘Two Mountains’ concept into practice, a key lever for building a harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature—a shared global home—and an essential pathway toward achieving common prosperity,” said a relevant official from the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Natural Resources. “Geological and environmental resources not only provide the material foundation for ecosystems but also sustain ecological diversity thanks to their unique geographical features. Deeply exploring their scientific, ecological, and market values enriches and expands the conceptual framework of ecological products.”

At the same time, the first batch of county-level geological and ecological product catalogs for Anji County was released, and the geological and ecological product study-and-travel routes, as well as the results of the pilot project “Survey and Evaluation of Geological and Ecological Products in Key Areas of Zhejiang Province (Anji County),” were handed over.
