The conference aims to bring together wisdom, build consensus, and jointly explore pathways for innovative development of the geological exploration industry under the new normal.

Peng Qiming, Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Secretary of the Party Committee of the China Mining Association, delivered a report titled “The Development of Geological Exploration Industry under the New Normal of Economic Development” at the conference. He emphasized that it is crucial to recognize the historical patterns governing the development of the geological exploration industry and to analyze demand with firm confidence.

Peng Qiming stated that, in the face of both opportunities and challenges, we must do the right things to promote the healthy development of China’s geological exploration sector. First, we need to enhance our capacity for innovation in basic geological research, improve the ability of geological surveys to solve problems, and raise the scientific research level of geological professionals. Second, we should advance innovation in mineral exploration technologies and methods, establish industry alliances, engage in joint research efforts, and leverage the application of new technologies and equipment to drive industrial progress. Third, we must strengthen the construction of an integrity system, standardize the management of institutional qualifications, introduce a system of qualified personnel, and establish a record-keeping system for integrity. Fourth, we should improve the level of information and data-sharing services, strictly enforce the system for submitting geological data, establish a management system for the submission of physical materials, and build a comprehensive data-sharing service platform. Fifth, we should jointly create platforms and successfully organize the China International Mining Conference and the Prospector’s Annual Meeting.

The opening ceremony of the conference was chaired by Wang Yan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Group and Deputy Director of the China Geological Survey Bureau, as well as President of the Geological Exploration Association of the China Mining Association. Pan Haibin, Deputy Director of the Anhui Provincial Department of Natural Resources and Land, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

Gu Shuzhong, Deputy Director of the Resource and Environment Institute at the State Council Development Research Center; Wang Kun, Director of the Geological Exploration Department at the Ministry of Natural Resources; and Yan Guangsheng, Director of the Chief Engineer’s Office at the China Geological Survey, delivered keynote speeches on “Global Mining Trends Assessment,” “The Status and Tasks of Geological Exploration,” and “Key Directions for Geological Surveys during the 13th Five-Year Plan,” respectively. Wang Kun explained that during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, China’s geological exploration efforts will undergo adjustments and optimization, placing greater emphasis on the quality and efficiency of reserve targets. The focus will shift toward minerals such as clean energy resources and strategic emerging industries, and green exploration practices will be vigorously promoted. As a result, geological work will undergo a significant transformation—from being resource-centered to giving equal weight to both resources and the environment.

During the conference, separate forums will also be held on topics including “Belt and Road” mining cooperation: opportunities and challenges; large-scale mineral exploration and evaluation; and the transformation and upgrading of geological work to ensure steady growth. Chen Yuchuan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Ye Tianzhu, former director of the China Geological Survey; and Liu Yikang, former chief engineer of the China Metallurgical Geology Exploration Bureau, will respectively deliver speeches on “Major Issues in Geological Exploration under the New Normal,” “Methods for Mineral Prospecting and Prediction,” and… A special lecture titled “Prospects and Review of Overseas Exploration” was delivered, followed by a Q&A session on-site.
