Currently, China’s silicon industry is undergoing a strategic transformation and faces multiple challenges, including adjustments in market demand, intensifying trade disputes, the need to strengthen innovation capabilities, and an urgent requirement to improve development quality. The task of achieving this transformative development is extremely daunting. As an important component of the nonferrous metals industry, the silicon industry holds a special position in China’s economic and social development. In particular, large-diameter silicon wafers used in integrated circuits serve as a critical support for strategic emerging industries and the defense science and technology sector, directly impacting national security and strategic development.

By promoting intelligent manufacturing, we can thoroughly resolve issues related to product batch stability, drive the industry toward the mid-to-high end, and meet the demands of China’s modern manufacturing sectors, such as integrated circuits.
At the same time, we must uphold coordinated development. We need to accelerate the adjustment of industrial layout and structure, and actively guide the orderly relocation of industrial silicon and polysilicon production capacity to the energy-rich western regions. Currently, Xinjiang is a region in China that is relatively rich in mineral resources and energy. A number of world-class industrial silicon and polysilicon producers have already been established there, making it one of the world’s major silicon industry clusters.
On the other hand, we must promptly phase out production capacity that lacks competitiveness, achieve rational control over industrial scale, ensure that products have a market and demand is adequately met, and align supply structures with demand structures. We should also leverage technological advancements and vigorously develop the circular economy to realize tiered and efficient utilization of resources.
He stated that the silicon industry should adopt a more open attitude and focus on the nation. “ The Belt and Road ” We should pursue a strategy of steadily advancing international capacity cooperation and safeguarding an open world economy and the multilateral trading system. We must adhere to the principle of shared development, promote industrial synergy, and establish internal consultation and coordination mechanisms to address common and deep-seated issues across industries. At present, we must pay particular attention to and attach great importance to the profound changes in the global trade environment, and jointly uphold the overall interests of the industry.
Regarding the overall development outlook for the nonferrous metals industry, he stated that, since the beginning of this year, despite a complex international environment, China’s nonferrous metals industry has continuously strengthened self-regulation and maintained relatively stable operations across the entire sector. However, the industry also faces challenges such as an overall decline in profits and a sustained drop in investment. Overall, although some positive signs have emerged in the industry’s transition from old to new growth drivers, there is still a long way to go before we can truly achieve innovation-driven, endogenous growth and successfully combine high quality with high efficiency.
