The French Orano Group is investing 1.6 billion euros to develop uranium mines in Mongolia.

According to S&P Market Intelligence on October 15, the French mining group Orano recently signed a framework agreement to invest 1.6 billion euros in developing the Zuuvch Ovoo uranium project in Mongolia. The project will be developed by Badrakh Energy, a joint venture between Orano Mining and Mon Atom, a Mongolian state-owned company, and is expected to begin production in 2028. According to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence, Zuuvch Ovoo is Mongolia’s largest uranium asset, valued at $8.59 billion, with reserves totaling 172 million pounds of uranium. In addition, France has also signed another agreement to invest 400,000 euros in conducting a prospective exploration and evaluation of lithium resources in Mongolia.
