According to comprehensive reports from both domestic and international sources, in the second quarter, the three major global iron ore producers experienced mixed fortunes in their iron ore production.
　　BHP released its financial report stating that iron ore production for fiscal year 2024 reached 287 million tons, slightly higher than the 285 million tons produced in the previous fiscal year, marking a new all-time high. Specifically, second-quarter 2024 production totaled 69.2 million tons, representing a 6% increase. The primary reasons for this growth were favorable weather conditions and increased output from the South Flank iron ore mine in Western Australia.
　　Vale issued a statement saying that in the second quarter, the company’s iron ore production reached 80.6 million tons, representing a year-on-year increase of 2.4%. This growth was primarily driven by higher output from the S11D iron ore mine and the Vargem Grande iron ore mine in Brazil. The company expects to achieve its 2024 iron ore production target of 310–320 million tons.
　　Rio Tinto announced that in the second quarter, its iron ore shipments from the Pilbara region in Western Australia totaled 80.3 million tons, a 3% increase from the 78 million tons shipped in the first quarter. However, this figure fell short of market expectations, primarily due to a railcar derailment that occurred in mid-May. The company continues to maintain its production target of 323–338 million tons.
